It is with profound sadness that we share that Mike Adams, long-time Curator of the Ossett & Gawthorpe Community Archive, unrelenting advocate of local heritage, steadfast supporter of an array of community groups including the Friends of Ossett Library and Ossett Historical Society, and proud Ossettonian, died peacefully on Saturday 28th January 2023.
Mike was passionate about Ossett, its people and places, and worked tirelessly to capture the lives and stories of our town, not only through the Archive, but also through his broader involvement in the community where his zealous commitment to Ossett and celebrating its history was constantly on display. His contribution will be sorely missed, but he leaves a legacy, not only in the richness of the Archive itself, but also through having built greater connectivity between the community and its past, and we hope, as he would, that we can all continue to share our knowledge, understanding and fervour for Ossett and its vibrant heritage with future generations.
For those who wish to remember and honour Mike, his funeral will take place on Tuesday 21st February 2023 at Wakefield Crematorium, starting promptly at 13:20. There will be an opportunity to raise a glass in Mike’s memory afterwards at Ego Mediterranean, Horbury.
